TELL ME THE TRUTH, DOC. Or maybe not. Clear communication with the medical team makes all the difference in very sick people getting the right kind of information to make good choices about quality-of-life care when the possibility of cure is still in question. Studies show that patients wait for doctors to tell them what's really going on, and doctors wait for patients to "bring it up". In this session, we'll talk about how to shape conversations that will help you understand what is happening when you need to know and want to know.
Dr. Merle Miller is a physician with HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties and was previously in the Emergency Department at Longmont United Hospital.
Dr. Mark Sitarik is an oncology and hematology physician with Rocky Mountain Cancer Center. He has practiced medicine in Boulder for 25 years and served as HospiceCare's medical director from 1987 to 1992.
Both Dr. Sitarik and Dr. Miller have developed practices based on respecting their patients as individuals with unique needs and goals.
Kim Mooney is the Director of Community Education for HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties and has been working to create honest, sophisticated public dialogue about end-of-life issues for 19 years.Click on the YouTube logo to watch videos of past speakers.
